Roots & Ladders
(2o24 - Ongoing)
Roots & Ladders is a visual odyssey that captures the profound interplay between land and water through the intricate forms of tangled roots and towering ancient trees. These deep-reaching roots weave an elaborate network beneath the earth,
silently shaping the landscapes they inhabit. They anchor the soil, filter the waters, and nurture the delicate balance of life,
forming an unseen yet vital foundation for the world above.
This series tells the story of an age-old symbiotic dance - where roots stretch downward, drawing strength from the depths,
while branches ascend like ladders toward the sky, bridging the elements in a timeless equilibrium.
These interwoven connections have sustained ecosystems for millennia, serving as nature’s silent architects,
preserving the fragile beauty of our planet’s forests, wetlands, and riverbanks.
A large number of photos from this collection have been taken in Huerquehue National Park that is located in the foothills of the Andes, in the Valdivian temperate rainforest of the La Arucania region in southern Chile. Huerquehue is a Mapudungun word (the language of the indigenous Mapuche people of the region) meaning "the messenger’s place".
Through this photographic journey, it is aimed to witness the resilience and wisdom of nature - reminding us that every root,
every branch, and every ripple in the water is part of an interconnected whole, shaping the delicate harmony of life on Earth.
